Enter technique. Cocktails are generally measured, prepared well, and will taste balanced. You can order the classics here with confidence. Don’t see a Last Word on the menu? No sweat, ask for it. Expect technique, but maybe not creativity. When the night calls for a well made Manhattan, but you don’t have time for a two hour waitlist, this is your place. It’s the type of place you visit when you’re in the neighborhood.
This is beyond technique. They’re creating originals that you’d want to travel for. They’re beyond classics. If you want a classic though, order it— it’ll be close to perfect. Perhaps they’ve mastered some aspects of the bar-going experience, perhaps there are slight inconsistencies between drinks or visits that’s holding them back from mastery. Don’t expect to see TVs here, the cocktails are the experience.
